School Vision and Christian Values

EVERY CHILD SUCCEEDS

This is our over-arching vision and is at the core of everything we do. It drives our teaching, underpins the learning, and provides an environment which prepares our pupils as confident, happy citizens.

We truly believe that every child has the ability to succeed and it is our job to develop this ability and give them the very best learning opportunity we can.

Christian Values

Love  Aspiration  Humanity

Our 18 (yes 18!) values have been grouped into three over-arching values that we feel best sum-up what we are trying to instil our children:

LOVE - For self, for others and for God.  ALL religions have love as a founding tenant and it is important that the children learn that love comes in many forms, and is not a word that should be shied away from.

We have grouped the following values under the banner of LOVE: Friendship, Forgiveness, Respect, Compassion, Thankfulness and Trust

ASPIRATION - Be bold, be strong and aim for the stars!  Every child has an aspiration - whether it is to be a footballer, doctor, nurse, teacher, engineer, shop-worker, hairdresser, YouTuber, influencer or builder.  All aspirations and goals are important, and we do not push the idea that 'University is best', we try to help children nurture their hopes and dreams as best we can.  On a day-t-day basis, the aspiration of some children to just to get through the day! A feeling often shared by adults too!

We have grouped the following themes under the heading of ASPIRATION: Wisdom, Courage, Perseverance, Joy, Truthfulness and Hope

HUMANITY - We share the school, community and world with others, and to show humanity is to help our neighbours whether they are on our table, living next door or in a faraway country.  We share so much, and to show humanity is to talk about differences, celebrate common aims, debate our beliefs and respect one another.  Humanity is about looking outwards and seeing what is the best the world has to offer and how can we add to this wonderful resource.

We have grouped the following themes under the arch of HUMANITY:  Peace, Dignity, GEnerosity, Service, Community, Justice

Below are several sub-pages which highlight how we demonstrate our Christian values at our school and in our local community.  As the year(s) progress, we hope to fill them with words, photographs, videos and sounds of Camm's children, and other examples from the world around us.  This means that some of the material will be form years-gone-by, but they all tell the rich story of life at Camm's

We hope you enjoy them, and if you have any suggestions, then please don’t be afraid to come and share your ideas.

Mr Cocking

These pages contain pictures, quotes and bible verses to hopefully give an idea of how we see Camm's embodying the values for which we stand.

Some of the pages will be awaiting content as we work our way around the values on our thee-year cycle.

Withdrawral from RE Lessons

Re: The Right to Withdraw from Religious Education (RE) lessons.

Parents have the right to withdraw their children from Religious Education (RE) and collective worship in England, a right protected by law, and can do so in writing without giving a reason. The right also applies to specific parts of RE or collective worship, though parental consent is needed for withdrawal from RE until age 18. Schools must grant the request, but the specific arrangements for supervision or alternative activities during this time depend on the school and may not involve alternative curriculum lessons.

However, before any request is made, it is worth considering the following:

  • Camm’s is a Church of England School, and this information was known at the time of enrolment.

  • We do not force any child, or adult, to pray during our Collective Worship sessions.  All prayers are invitational and if they so wish, it can be dedicated to a different faith.

  • We teach about all the major faiths, and some minor ones, so that as you child grows, they gather knowledge about the different faiths, making it easier for them to make an informed choice later in life.

If, taking the above points into consideration, you still wish to withdraw your child from Re, then the process is as follows:

  1. Write a formal letter:  Submit a formal, written request to the headteacher and the school governors.
  2. State your request clearly:  Explicitly state that you are requesting your child be withdrawn from religious education and/or collective worship.
  3. Discuss with the school:  It is a good practice to discuss the request with the school to understand the practical implications.
  4. Confirm arrangements:  Agree on how your child will be supervised during the time they are withdrawn, and what alternative provision you will provide for your child during the times in which RE and/or Collective Worship is being delivered.  This includes any trips, visits and services we may engage in.

Should you require any further information about this, then these are good links and websites to look at:

Knowing about other religions, faiths and beliefs is an important part of the world we live in, and can be the gateway to developing tolerance, respect and understand of other cultures.

I hope that before withdrawing your child, you consider all of the above.
