The Earth
Our display boards look a little empty so I'd like to make some of them shine with your wonderful writing.
I'd like you to write a poem like this one:
Our Earth Poem - a traditional Native American Earth Poem
Earth teach me stillness as the grasses are stilled with light.
Earth teach me suffering as old stones suffer with memory.
Earth teach me humility as blossoms are humbled with beginning.
Earth teach me caring as the mother who secures her young.
Earth teach me courage as the tree which stands all alone.
Earth teach me limitations as the ant which crawls on the ground.
Earth teach me freedom as the eagle which soars in the sky.
Earth teach me resignation as the leaves which die in the fall.
Earth teach me regeneration as the seed which rises in the spring.
Earth teach me to forget myself as melted snow forgets its life.
Earth teach me to remember kindness as dry fields weep with rain.
Now it is your turn like this :
Earth teach me beauty as (something that is beautiful to look at in nature) – a river flowing to the sea.
Earth teach me kindness as (something in nature that helps something else – rain making plants grow.
Earth teach me freedom as (something that moves as it wants to in the air) – a butterfly floats from plant to plant.
Earth teach me about life as (something that grows again each year.) – a tree that grows leaves in the spring
Earth teach me caring as (an animal looks after their young) – a mother duck looks after her ducklings
Earth teach me joy as (something in nature that makes you think – wow!) - a sunrise brightens the morning sky
Earth teach me forgiveness as (something in nature that starts again each day / season / year – a fresh start) - a flower that opens up again after a storm.
Then using plain paper and a line guide write it neatly and decorate it.
We end up with :
Earth teach me beauty as a river flowing to the sea.
Earth teach me kindness as rain making plants grow.
Earth teach me freedom as a butterfly floats from plant to plant.
Earth teach me about life as a tree that grows leaves in the spring
Earth teach me caring as a mother duck looks after her ducklings
Earth teach me joy as a sunrise brightens the morning sky
Earth teach me forgiveness as a flower that opens up again after a storm.
