How have toys and games changed over time?

Week 5

A fantastic end to our topic on Toys and Games! We had a toy dress up day with an open toy and game museum for the children and the adults. It was great fun seeing the children play with old and new toys and games and create a toys and games museum with lots of interesting facts and games for the adults to have a go at! We also did some capacity work in Maths, even making some mocktails for the adults to enjoy at the toys and games museum. We did some Easter activities too including the Easter service in school and the egg hunt with Reception and Year 2. We finished our week off with a virtual author visit, listening to the story Drama Llama and even having a go at illustrating a Llama! Fun-filled, busy and tiring!

Week 4

In Maths this week, we have been continuing with our unit on measurement by weighing objects using both non-standard and standard units of measurement. We made Rocky Road bites which the children loved! In PE, we continued to work on our Fundamental skills and our Invasion Games involving both attacking and defending roles. Mrs Crotty made some rolling dog paper toys using paper and cotton reels which you will see in our Toy Museum next week! We did some shape problem solving on Friday using a simple post-it note and teamwork! In PSHE, we have been focusing on Helping Hands! We played some lovely helping hands parachute games on Friday afternoon, working together to succeed! Another busy but fun-packed week!

Week 3

Another fantastic week in Year 1! We represented the school the really well at the Dance Festival at the Winding Wheel and did ourselves proud by performing on the stage with confidence and smiles! We are awaiting the video from Qualitas which will put on the website once we receive it! In class this week, we have done the middle part of our Toy Story adventure storyboards, started our Maths unit on measurement, starting with measuring length and height. We made our toy pictures into animations during our Computing slot and have some great fun within our attacking and defending unit in PE!

Week 2

This week, we have started our storyboard adventure story based on a short clip from Toy Story. We have been working on missing numbers to 50 and one more and one less in our Maths learning. We have been learning about the Easter story in RE. We have had great fun in PE learning about attacking and defending and basic fundamental skills (jumping, running, walking, skipping and hopping.) We even had a shorter week thanks to the snow!

Week 1

A great start to the new term in Year 1. We have been writing character descriptions for our focus writing this week and I have attached some of the showcase writing based on Buzz Lightyear for you to see! We have been recapping place value in Maths, working on numbers up to 50. In Art, we used oil pastels to create self-portraits of Woody or Buzz which we used to create different animations on the computers. We had great fun with Year 5 for World Book Day, partner reading, building reading dens and completing a book clue hunt. We finished the week creating animation stories with our present-day toys from home. A fun, action-packed week!
