What do we know about the world we live in?

Week 7

Final week of Autumn Term! Year 1 have been busy reading and creating their own number poems based on the poem 'Five Little Snowmen.' In Maths, we have been doing some more work on identifying, recognising and describing 3D shapes. We had a Christmas party in the hall with dancing, funny glasses and games! We finished the week with some gymnastic apparatus to practise our rolling, jumping, balancing and shapes! A fantastic week to end before the Christmas holidays!

Week 6

What an incredible week! Two fantastic nativity performances with the children demonstrating lots of acting, singing and dancing skills on stage in front of a full audience! On top of that, some incredible learning too! We did some colour mixing in art, some self-portraits in computing, some practical pattern work in maths, some comparison work in Geography, looking at London and Quito in Ecuador. We finished our week with a mindfulness day and a visit to the church to see the Christmas Tree Festival! A busy but enjoyable week in Year 1!

Week 5

A chaotic week in Year 1 with lots of nativity practise and Christmas Fayre preparation! We did manage to fit in our independent writing based on a penguin adventure (writing to follow after editing), some incredible dancing, creating different sequences of moves to represent different weather songs and a lovely circle time discussion, comparing the similarities and differences between them and a friend. We worked on a group challenge in RE, creating advent wreaths following a set of pictorial instructions. We managed to complete the forward roll in gymnastics and spend some quiet time sharing a book with a friend!

Week 4

Another busy week in Year 1, finishing off our stories based on the book 'Wombat Goes Walkabout.' In Maths, we have been doing an assessment on addition and subtraction and focusing on lots of mental maths. We have been practising our Christmas nativity loads this week! We enjoyed the frost, snow and ice, creating story boxes based on a penguin adventure ready for our independent story writing next week! We took part in a 'Guess the musical instrument' quiz in music. We focused on symmetrical and non-symmetrical balances in gymnastics and finished the week with a virtual author session with Nick Sharratt and Pippa Goodhart, creating illustrations and our own mini flapbooks too!

Week 3

In Year 1 this week, we have been continuing to write our stories based on the book 'Wombat Goes Walkabout'. We have been learning to subtract on a number line in Maths. We have been learning to dance like the wind in our PE lesson on dance. We have been identifying different animals in Science and have started our Christmas baubles in D & T. We have been learning to complete different rolls in Gymnastics and jump off equipment safely. We finished our week on a dinosaur stamp hunt looking for dinosaurs that are the same or difference, part of our PSHE unit on differences. Another busy week!

Week 2

A busy week in Year 1. In maths, we have started to learn about subtraction. In writing, we have started to write our adventure story based on the book 'Wombat Goes Walkabout.' In gymnastics, we have been learning about shapes and point balances. For Children in Need, we decorated a Pudsey biscuit and worked together to paint a Pudsey bear using pointillism. In Fresh-Air Friday, we have been learning about different families and we completed a group task looking for different pictures of families to compare.
