Important Information

READING INFORMATION

Reading records will be checked on a Tuesday and a Friday and books changed accordingly. Please ensure all reading is recorded including reading own books, school books and any shared reading done at home.

Year 1 do have a Disney themed Reading Race and for every read your child does at home, your child will move one space on the Disney Reading Race. Throughout Year 1, the children will collect different Disney characters based on their home reading only.

At the end of Year 1, children will be rewarded with either a Bronze, Silver or Gold badge and certificate based on how many Disney characters they have collected. The more reading done at home, the more Disney characters they will collect! We advise your child reads at home consistently at least three times a week in order to achieve the Gold badge and certificate. All reading done at home will be beneficial to your child's reading ability, comprehension and understanding.

PE INFORMATION

Our PE days in Summer Term 1 are Monday mornings and Tuesday afternoons. Please ensure on those days that children come to school dressed in their PE kits. Black or navy blue joggers, leggings or shorts with house-coloured or white t-shirt with school cardigan, jumper or fleece. Suitable footwear must be worn (ideally trainers) with long hair tied up or back. Earrings must always be covered with earring tape on a daily basis. Now we are heading for the Summer term, we may add some extra PE dates on so keep up-to-date with Parent Hub.

FRESH-AIR FRIDAYS

On a Friday afternoon, Year 1 do Fresh-Air Friday which is linked to our PSHE, mental health and well-being curriculum. Children will need to bring with them in a named carrier bag a change of footwear (i.e. wellington books, old trainers etc.) and a water-proof coat every Friday unless told otherwise via Parent Hub. In the event that your child doesn't have appropriate clothing or footwear, they will have to stay in school with another class and miss this outdoor learning opportunity.

YEAR 1 PHONICS SCREENING CHECK INFORMATION

In Year 1, the children will sit a Phonics Screening Check test which will take place from week commencing 10th June 2024. The check can be done anything from that date within a two week timeframe. Your child will do this check on a one-to-one basis with their class teacher in a quiet room which is familiar to them. The children will read 40 words in total (20 real words and 20 nonsense words.) The check is designed to test the children's decoding skills only. Year 1 staff will work with the children throughout the year, undertaking practise checks so that they are familiar with the outlay of the checks. More information on this will follow in January 2024 during the Phonics Screening Check meeting (date to be confirmed via Parent Hub at a later date.)
