Week 5
A busy last week of term! We did a short Spring walk for our Science learning on seasonal changes and weather. We did some cornflake buns to support our maths learning on weighing and measurement. We attended the Easter experience at the Friendship Hall, learning even more about the Easter story. We invited our parents in for our Toy Museum to showcase our learning on how toys and games have changed over time. We finished this week with the church service and our annual Easter egg hunt! Busy but lots of fun!
Week 4
This week in Year 1, we have been writing our own independent endings to our short adventure story based on Toy Story. We have been learning about weighing in maths. We have been using Scratch Junior to create different moving animations. In music, we have been playing handbells to different musical notes. We have been learning how to play an attacking and defending team game in PE, as well as, learning how to dodge and change directions quickly. In PSHE, we have been learning about respect and showing respect to each other during our team games during Fresh-Air Friday! A busy but fun week in Year 1!
Week 3
In Maths this week, we have been learning how to measure using non-standard and standard units to find out different lengths and heights. We attended the dance festival at the Winding Wheel and showed everyone our fantastic dance to S Club 7's Don't Stop Moving! We were confident, brave and incredible! We also had Red Nose Day and we learned about the importance of sleep, playing the game Sleeping Lions outside! A busy week in Year 1!
Week 2
We started our week with a virtual author session called Story Maker which taught the children how to create a storyline, how to illustrate using your mistakes and one author read some rather interesting facts about space, which we will share during our class assembly next half-term. In Maths, we continued to learn out numbers to 50 using number lines and one more and one less. We created our own pulse composition in music which was great fun! In PE, we continued to learn how to play invasion games such as cat and mouse in the middle, as well as, the difference between a walk, a jog and a sprint! We used our cutting skills to create 3D Mothering Sunday flower bouquets. We started our animation unit in computing using Scratch Junior. We had great fun with Year 5 on World Book Day completing a book themed hunt and building lots of reading dens to read in! We created short PSHE videos (see school videos) on joking, bullying and teasing using very random toys! Another busy week.
Week 1
A great start to the new half-term! We have been writing character descriptions in English based on some characters from our focus film 'Toy Story'. We have been learning to count and recognise the place value to numbers up to 50 in Maths. In Science, we have been learning about seasonal changes from Winter to Spring. We have started our invasion games and fundamental learning in PE with some attacking and defending games and learning the difference between a hop and a jump! In PSHE, we have been learning the difference between a joke, teasing and bullying including reading a story all about these three things! We also had some fun during Fresh-Air Friday when we experienced a quick shower of hailstones!
