Kyky and the Feast

Today is our writing day. So follow the plans for the writing and use the teacher prompts to help you.

Collect negative words for the sunless weather to create Maya’s feelings as he worries about Kyky:

gloomy, dull, drab, dreary, grey, dismal, damp, chilly, cold, dank

Teacher model: ‘14th March 1323BC

I got little sleep last night.’ Another dreary, sunless day. People say Kyky’s father was such a terrible ruler that he angered the gods by having favourites and the sun still refuses to shine.

Pupils write: 14th March 1323BC

I got little sleep last night………….

Pupils create negative thoughts describing the negative weather that reflects Maya’s worries about Kyky. Describe why people think the sun doesn’t shine.

Hot seat as Maya and his feeling about the lack of sun. Collect his feelings and create similes:

I long for the sun like a child misses her toy, I think about days with the sun on my skin like a piggyback from a friend, the lack of sun makes our labour hard like our limbs are rusting in the rain.

Teacher model: I miss the sun and its warmth like a soothing hand on my back as I work.

Pupils describe how Maya feels about the sun creating a simile.

Hot seating as Maya describing his positive plans to appease the sun god: see if Kyky fancies a Feast Day to win the sun god’s favour, see what Kyky’s thoughts are on a Feast Day.

Teacher model: I’m going to go for a dip with Kyky this afternoon and suggest we have a Feast Day to appease the god Amun. I hope he likes the idea.

Pupils describe Kyky’s positive plans to suggest a Feast Day to Kyky. Describe his hopes that his friend will agree.
