Reading Scheme

Reading at Camm's

In the EYFS (Nursery and Reception), children are exposed to an extensive range of books both for educational purposes and to engender a love of books and reading.  As they develop, the children are entered into the Oxford Reading Tree scheme.  This includes picture books without words and progresses onto books with simple words and sentences.

As the children progress into KS1, they continue to work through the Oxford Reading Tree scheme to enhance their vocabulary and understanding of the texts.  The variety of texts they experience also widens to encompass playscripts, different fiction genres and non-fiction text-types.

In KS2 this progression continues but the children have a greater freedom to choose books that interest them.  The library still offers books which are colour 'banded' to ensure teachers can track progression, but are not scheme or publisher specific.  The books vary in length, topic and difficultly according to the band.
