Reading is vital in Year 1. Please aim to read at least 3 times a week with your child. Aim to read the books provided by school as these support your child's phonics learning, as well as, reading books from home or the library to encourage children to read for pleasure. Reading records will be checked twice a week (Tuesdays and Fridays unless told otherwise) and books changed accordingly. If your child reads 3 times a week, they will move one character space on our Disney themed reading race. For each stage collected (4 characters per stage), it goes towards a Bronze (2 completed stages), a Silver (4 completed stages) or a Gold award (all 8 completed stages) at the end of the academic year. At the end of the academic year, your child will receive the appropriate badge, sticker and certificate. More reading, more progress and a higher reward at the end of the year!
In Autumn Term 2, our PE Days are:
Monday afternoons and Friday mornings.
On these days, your child will need to come to school wearing their PE kit. Black leggings, shorts or joggers with house-coloured or white t-shirt with their school jumper, cardigan or fleece. Hair must be tied up or back with earrings covered with tape. Sensible footwear must be worn, ideally trainers.
In Autumn Term 2, our Outdoor Learning day is:
Thursday afternoons
On this day, your child needs to wear sensible clothing for outdoor learning (clothing that you don't mind them getting dirty!) They will need to bring a change of footwear, ideally old trainers or wellington boots. Your child will need to bring a waterproof coat with them every week, just in case!
In Autumn 2 term we will be focusing on:
Maths - Place value and numbers within 20 including how to write them correctly as numbers and words. We will be using part/whole models, number lines and maths equipment to add and subtract within 20.
English - Basic sentence structures will continue with a focus on using capital letters to start all sentences and for places. We will be using full stops and exclamation marks to end sentences in different ways. We will learn how to write adventure stories from a different country and non-fiction leaflets.
Phonics - Mrs Treweek's group will be focusing on trigraphs and blends through Basics 3 and 4 of our phonics program. Mrs Womble's group will be learning digraphs and trigraphs through Basics 3 of our phonics program.
Science - We will be classifying and grouping different animals based on their features, where they live and what they eat. We will also be looking at animals we keep as pets and animals that we don't.
Any support at home which these areas of learning will be greatly appreciated. Please also see below for the online platforms that we have in school that can further support reading, phonics and maths.
