Camm’s CE Primary School Statement: Art and Design
Intent
The intent of our Art and Design curriculum is to create a curriculum that stimulates creativity, imagination and inventiveness. The purpose of art education is to give pupils the skills, concepts and knowledge necessary for them to express responses to ideas and experiences in a visual or tactile form. It fires their imagination and is a fundamental means of personal expression.
We strive to ensure that all children have the opportunity to develop in different areas:
IMPLEMENTATION
Camm’s we recognise that in order for all pupils to progress they need to be confident across each of their yearly objectives. Our Art and Design curriculum covers the knowledge and skills outlined in the National Curriculum, and ensures all children are given opportunities to be challenged to progress their learning further.
We strive to ensure that all children have the opportunity to develop in different areas:
IMPACT
We strive to ensure that our pupil’s attainment is in line or exceeds their potential when we consider the varied starting points of all our children. Through our progressive skill based curriculum we are measuring the children’s ability, striving for them to meet their age-related expectations for their year group.
We intend the impact of our Art and Design curriculum will ensure children will leave our school prepared for the next step in their art and design education and life beyond primary school.
Early Years
EYFS - Creativity is at the heart of the EYFS. Through open-ended art provision, children's natural curiosity, willingness to try things out and sense of adventure are allowed to flourish through drawing, painting, building, modelling and exploring. Direct teaching and adult led activity also allows children to develop their fine and gross motor skills, coordination, control as well as boosting their imagination, self-confidence and identity. Children are given opportunities to be imaginative, explore different materials and develop their ideas is an important part of the Early Years Foundation Stage, mainly within the 'expressive art and design' area of learning. Children are encouraged to practise their handling, moving and control skills (for example, by painting or using clay). Materials are accessible for children to develop and explore their ideas and to be imaginative.
