Term 1: Penguins, Parrots, Possums and Pigs

Our Term 1 topic is called 'Penguins, Parrots, Possums and Pigs'. The topic provides lots of opportunities to learn about hot and cold places in the world. This topic will start by looking at the book 'Lost and Found' by Oliver Jeffers. Did you know that all penguins live south of the equator?

Gigantic Journeys (Book Week)

Our Book Week this year takes place the week commencing Monday 2nd November. Year 1 will conclude their topic on animals by looking at two stories containing gigantic journeys.
The children will have an opportunity to dress up as a character from a book of their choice on Friday 6th November.

Term 2: Sparkle and Shine 

'Sparkle and Shine' is the name of our topic for Term 2. We will be learning about different light sources. Our class will also be working with Year 2 as we prepare for the performance of this year's nativity play in December.

Term 3: Weather Experts

The children will be learning about different weather conditions during this topic. They will also consider how weather conditions can be observed and measured and gain experience of giving their

own weather forecast.

Term 4: Tea, Toast and Tomato Ketchup

Year 1 will be discovering where our food comes from during this topic. The children will have opportunity to discuss their favourite foods and consider how to maintain a healthy diet and lifestyle. There will also be opportunity for the class to try making some tasty dips.

Term 5: Journeys

This term the children will be thinking about different journeys. They will explore their own locality and start to make comparisons with other places. English lessons will see the class journey to the moon and the depths of the sea. Please look at the topic map uploaded below for more details.

Term 6: Journeying around Europe

This term the children will learn about Europe. They will find out about different ways of travelling around Europe and learn how recent projects have helped to make this more straightforward. Year 1 will also explore different European cultures as we learn about a couple of countries in more detail.
