This topic will extend children's knowledge of life cycles that exist in nature. By the end of this topic, children should recognise that all animals and humans have offspring which grow into adults. The children will also continue to find out about the basic needs of animals and humans for survival. The class will also have opportunities to get active as they consider the importance for humans of exercise, hygiene and a balanced diet.

This short topic (two weeks) will provide the focus of Year 2's class assembly. With the year 2016 marking 100 years since Roald Dahl's birth, this topic will provide an appropriate celebration of his gloriumptious stories and characters.
Year 2 will be taken on a journey back to 1666 as they consider how dramatic events in our capital city would change London forever.

Year 2 will use an e-book titled 'Growing Chocolate' to explore the big question at the heart of this topic. The children will use the information they discover to answer a variety of questions as they get thinking about a world of plants. The class will have the opportunity to develop their own green fingers by transforming the area outside the classroom into a miniature garden.
